Filing for bankruptcy in California generally stays wage garnishments and bank levies, while nonexempt assets and equity may remain subject to bankruptcy administration.California exemption law determines whether qualifying home equity, personal property, and other assets remain outside bankruptcy administration. Chapter 7 may expose nonexempt property to trustee administration, while Chapter 13 generally relies on a court-approved repayment plan funded in part by post-petition income. The treatment of garnished wages, levied bank funds, mortgage arrears, and personal guarantees depends on California law and the federal Bankruptcy Code.

Contact a school bus accident lawyer in NYC when injuries are serious, fault is unclear, or a short notice deadline may apply. You do not need to wait until medical treatment ends or an insurer denies a claim. Early review matters most when delay could affect evidence, insurance benefits, or the ability to identify the correct defendant. Who operated the bus, how the accident happened, and whether a public entity is involved can change what must happen next.

Referral arrangements between healthcare providers and external sources require careful evaluation of compensation terms under Business and Professions Code § 650. Provider enrollment schedules vary by payer, and missed requirements can impact ongoing network participation agreements.

For a foreign brand owner, the threshold question changed in 2023. Abitron Austria GmbH v. Hetronic International, 600 U.S. 412 (2023), held that the Lanham Act’s infringement and unfair competition provisions are not extraterritorial and reach only claims where the infringing use in commerce is domestic. The former effects-based tests no longer support a claim over sales made entirely abroad, however much the US owner was harmed. On discovery, a foreign party cannot rely on its home jurisdiction to limit production. Société Nationale Industrielle Aérospatiale v. District Court, 482 U.S. 522 (1987), held that the Hague Evidence Convention is not the exclusive route, so a court may compel discovery under the Federal Rules notwithstanding a foreign blocking statute or data protection law. The practical consequence is a conflict that has to be managed through protective orders and transfer mechanisms rather than avoided. Enforcement runs in two directions. A foreign money judgment is recognized in New York under CPLR Article 53, subject to the enumerated grounds for non-recognition. A New York judgment, by contrast, has to be enforced wherever the defendant’s assets are, and in jurisdictions that do not readily recognize US judgments an arbitration clause under the New York Convention is the more reliable route — a choice made in the agreement rather than after the dispute.
