This case study examines a confrontation that escalated into an alcohol-related assault dispute involving both the client and the opposing party. The client had finished closing a bar for the night and was walking down the stairs when he encountered an intoxicated individual blocking his path. After politely requesting the individual to leave, the situation escalated when the intoxicated person suddenly assaulted the client. In the midst of the altercation, the client pushed the aggressor down the stairs, resulting in an injury that later became central to the alcohol-related assault case. Both individuals filed criminal complaints: the client reported the opposing party for assault while intoxicated, and the opposing party accused the client of simple assault. The defense team was required to handle both the client’s victim complaint and the defense against the counteraccusation simultaneously.
