What Business Development Companies Risks Exist in Crypto?

Investors evaluating business development companies that allocate capital to cryptocurrency ventures face distinct regulatory, disclosure, and structural risks that differ substantially from traditional asset classes. The cryptocurrency sector operates across multiple regulatory regimes, including securities law, commodities regulation, and anti-money laundering requirements, creating overlapping compliance obligations for any entity channeling capital into digital assets. Business development companies (BDCs) that pursue crypto investments must reconcile these frameworks with their statutory mandate to invest in eligible portfolio companies while maintaining appropriate diversification and leverage constraints. Understanding how these regulatory layers interact, and where judicial and administrative interpretation remains unsettled, is essential for investors assessing the governance quality and risk management practices of BDCs with crypto exposure.

What Does a Mass Tort Lawyer Actually Do in Your Case?

Mass tort actions allow individuals harmed by the same defective product, dangerous substance, or negligent conduct to pursue claims collectively, often achieving efficiency and leverage that isolated litigation cannot. Understanding how these actions work, what triggers participation, and how courts manage them across jurisdictions helps potential litigants evaluate whether collective action aligns with their circumstances and priorities. How Do You Draft an Employment Contract in New York?

Most of what protects an employee in the District is not in the contract, and cannot be written out of it. Statutory rights apply regardless. Paid sick leave, minimum wage, and overtime attach by operation of law. A contract that provides less does not fail — the provision simply does not bind, and the statutory floor governs instead. The exposure is in wage claims, not enforceability. The District's wage payment law allows recovery of up to four times the unpaid amount, plus attorney's fees. It is among the most severe wage remedies in the country, and it reaches classification errors and final-pay timing as readily as deliberate underpayment. Non-competes are restricted by income. Since 2022, non-compete provisions are prohibited outright for employees below a compensation threshold and permitted only within defined limits above it. Employers also owe advance written notice, and restrictions on outside work during employment are themselves limited. A separate written notice is required. Employers must give employees written notice of their terms of employment. That obligation exists independently of whatever the employment agreement says.
