Written notice to the employer within thirty days of the injury, and a claim filed within two years — measured from the accident, or for an occupational disease, from when the worker knew or should have known the condition was work-related. And the compensation carrier has a lien. If a third-party case recovers, the carrier is repaid from it. How that lien is negotiated affects what actually reaches the worker, and it is worth understanding before either case is resolved.
