정신질환 앓는 여성 속여 금품 갈취한 일당…法, 실형 선고

Impersonating a victim met in open chat
35 million won worth of money stolen
The court said, “Crime was committed using a relationship of trust.”
… “The crime is bad and the damage is significant.”

A group of people who defrauded a mentally ill woman of tens of millions of won was sentenced to prison.

The Eastern Branch of the Busan District Court sentenced Mr. A and two others, who were brought to trial on charges of quasi-fraud, to one year and one year and four months in prison, respectively, in February.

They were accused of opening a mobile phone in the name of Mr. B, whom they met in an open chat room in 2021, and making small payments without permission.

It was also confirmed that money worth 35 million won was stolen from Mr. B's account and that he obtained a loan by impersonating Mr. B based on false documents.

It was revealed that they committed this crime by deliberately approaching Mr. B, knowing that he suffered from autism and lacked intellectual ability.

The court sentenced them to prison. The court explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, “The nature of the crime that took advantage of a personal trust relationship is bad and the damage is significant,” and “The defendants did not faithfully attend the trial, such as failing to appear at the trial date, and committed the crime while on probation for a similar crime.”

Attorney Cheon Jeong-min of Daeryun Law Firm, who represented Mr. B, said, “At the time of applying for the loan, the defendants created a false income verification form, which is an act of forging a private document,” and added, “When submitting this to the bank, they could also be charged with using a forged private document and face severe punishment.”
