Increasing case processing expertise and efficiency with the Litigation Management Headquarters
Daeryun Law Firm (Kook-il Kim and Byeong-jun Ko, managing attorneys) announced on the 8th that it plans to launch a special execution headquarters (“Special Department”) to closely respond to the increasing number of medium-to-large cases.
The Special Department of Daeryun Law Firm is an organization (led by the headquarters) that handles medium to large-scale cases that are difficult to respond to at the individual group level, and is composed of Special Department 1 (Civil Affairs/Administration) and Special Department 2 (Criminal).
Daeryun Law Firm explained, "The special department system presents a new direction in handling medium to large-sized cases. Together with the recently established Litigation Management Headquarters, it is a strategy to maximize the expertise and efficiency of case handling," adding, "Rather than simply 'increasing the number of people' and allocating lawyers randomly, a management system suitable for medium to large-sized cases can be established by organizing lawyers specializing in each field under the leadership of the head of the division."
Attorney Young-Gon Cho (Judicial Research and Training Institute 16th class) serves as the head of the Special Department and the second head of the Special Department, leading the entire group. Attorney Cho, who served as the chief prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and the chief of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office, took on major cases such as the Four Major Rivers Project investigation and the investigation into the recovery of fines from former Presidents Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo while he was chief prosecutor. He also provided legal advice and response to investigations for numerous companies, including unfair trade practices of leading domestic and foreign companies.
Attorney Sang-won Yeo (17th Judicial Research and Training Institute), who served as Chief Judge of the Seoul Central District Court and the Seoul Eastern District Court, is in charge of the Special 1st Department. Attorney Yeo, who has served in public life as a judge for 23 years, will lead the civil affairs group based on her experience as a trial researcher at the Supreme Court and as a Korean commercial arbitrator.
As standing attorneys, Lee Eui-seok (6th trial), a real estate lawyer of the Korean Bar Association and a lawyer specializing in expropriation and compensation, and Kim Myeong-cheol (47th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), who represented the ‘Incheon investment tycoon’ in the 67 billion won fraud case, will take care of civil administration and criminal cases, respectively.
The launch of Daeryun Law Firm’s Special Department is significant in that it carries out the entire litigation process, from ‘consultation-dividend-management’, with professional lawyers. If a case is classified as a medium or large-scale case after consultation by a lawyer specializing in counseling within the Litigation Management Headquarters, which Daeryun launched last month, the Special Action Headquarters responds.
Recently, the cases that the Daeryun Special Department is responding to include △ A dispute over construction costs by an apartment complex reconstruction association, △ Damage from virtual currency group fraud, and △ A dispute over unfair loans from large construction company B. Regarding the Apartment A case, Director Cho said, “Constructors often avoid construction cost disputes by ‘taking time,’” and explained the strategy by saying, “Daeryun minimizes the burden on union members through the process of ‘contract review → request for evidence → analysis of negotiation structure → response to cancellation.’”
Regarding the future direction of the Special Department, Attorney Cho chose ‘legal activism.’ Attorney Cho said, “The purpose of the special department is not just to represent lawsuits, but to diagnose the risk structure before a problem occurs,” and added, “The goal is not only to minimize the spread of damage, but ultimately to come up with a plan to improve the system.”
Kim Kuk-il, CEO of Daeryun Law Firm, said, “In the case of medium to large-sized cases, multiple cases are often merged, so it is important that lawyers with specialized knowledge are brought in at the same time.” He added, “Because the team is led by ‘legal veterans’ with nearly 40 years of experience in the legal field, we can provide clients with clear strategies and direction.”
