Daeryun Law Firm announced on the 9th that it will provide systematic legal services related to the military by strengthening the Defense Military Group, which specializes in military cases.

Depending on the size of the case, the National Defense Military Group forms a specialized team of 3 to 20 people in each field to provide legal services.

Daeryun recently recruited a large number of military lawyers, led by group leader Kim Young-soo. The strategy is to increase the win rate by having a veteran expert with experience in internal military incidents oversee the case.

Attorney Kim Young-soo (13th military judge) is a former chief of the Navy's legal affairs department, chief military court, and deputy general judge of the High Military Court, and has held key military positions such as the head of the Navy's High Prosecutors' Office and the head of the Navy Human Rights Center.

Attorney Kim has led unprecedented litigation, including major military criminal cases such as bribery cases and sexual violence cases within military units, as well as group lawsuits related to underpayment of pensions for retired soldiers.

Along with Attorney Kim, Attorney Seo In-ho (16th Military Judge Advocate), a former Army military judge and legal staff member, is expected to lead the dedicated team as a talented person with diverse experience, including serving in the Legal Office of the Army Headquarters and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and as a military judge in the 3rd Corps (Inje) and 5th Corps (Pocheon).

Attorney Seo served as a legal staff member (head of the prosecution department) of the 30th Division, a military rights advisor to the 3rd Corps, and the chairman of the Special Deliberation Committee on National Compensation at the Army Headquarters. It specializes in military-related cases, such as disciplinary action related to adultery between married people, disciplinary action for drinking, and various disciplinary cases such as disobedience to orders, failure to follow instructions, and violation of decency.

In addition to attorneys Kim and Seo, the National Defense Military Group includes Kim Young-hyeong (7th class), a former Air Force military prosecutor and head of the legal office of the 5th Air Mobility Wing of the Air Force, Gyeong-deok Kim (7th class), a former head of the legal office of the 1st Marine Division, who served as a naval legal officer, Ji Eun-hye (7th class), a former consulting attorney at the Army Logistics Support Command, and a former Air Force disciplinary investigator and litigation officer. Military lawyers such as Choi Hyeon-deok (8th class of Byunsi) and Yongheul Park (9th class of Byunsi), a former military prosecutor and head of the legal office at the 3rd Military Academy, will join to systematically respond to military cases.

They have successfully led a number of military criminal cases, including ▲ cases of desertion of military service by falsifying official documents, ▲ assault cases of junior soldiers, ▲ cases of military sexual crimes such as forcible molestation and rape, ▲ cases of insults to superiors, and ▲ cases of violation of the Military Service Act.

With the recent revision of the Military Court Act, some military crimes, including sexual assault crimes, are investigated by civilian investigative agencies rather than military units and are tried in civilian courts. With the abolition of the High Military Court, factual judgments must also be judged by legal experts from outside the military, not from the military.

However, the general opinion in the legal community is that disciplinary procedures are carried out within the military unit and require the help of experts, including the formation of a committee.

Regarding this, lawyer Kim Young-soo explained, “The disciplinary committee members are not legal experts, and ordinary officers working in the unit serve as disciplinary committee members. This is why communication from experts who know the atmosphere of the field is necessary.”

Daeryun Defense Military Group is strengthening its expertise and expanding its scope by linking a number of military-related cases, such as defense industry corruption, military secret cases, and IT business state contracts, with the corporate legal group. The plan is to provide optimal legal services through systematic collaboration between military lawyers and corporate legal experts.

We have also actively developed military-related business agreements to expand the National Defense Military Group, and signed a legal advisory MOU with the Korea Military Industry Association last month.

Attorney Kim said, “Due to the special nature of the military, there are military units across the country, so the national office must move organically and work as one team. Although the regions are different, we will work as a team to become a control tower so that we can provide customized legal services to customers.”
