경찰, 'SKT 해킹 늑장 대처 의혹' 고발인 소환(종합)

Daeryun's lawyer, "You have betrayed your social responsibility and public trust... We will hold you accountable until the end."

Regarding the controversy over SK Telecom (SKT)'s delayed response to the hacking incident, the police summoned the accuser on the 21st.

On this afternoon, Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul summoned attorneys Gye-Jun Son and Jeong-Min Cheon from Daeryun Law Firm, who filed a complaint against SKT CEO Yoo Young-Sang and SKT Security Manager on charges of breach of trust and obstruction of official duties, and asked them about the circumstances of the complaint.

Prior to the investigation, Attorney Son held a press conference at the main gate of the police station and said, "The SKT hacking leak incident is the worst security incident in telecommunication history," and added, "I hope that the facts will be clearly revealed through a thorough investigation regarding the betrayal of social responsibility and public trust as a key telecommunication company."

He argued, "As of 2024, the average investment in information security per person for the other two telecommunication operators is 5,751 won, but SKT invested 3,531 won," adding, "2,220 won per person is less, and this is specified as a breach of trust. When multiplied by the number of subscribers of about 24 million, SKT has made an unfair profit of 54 billion won through breach of trust."

Attorney Son emphasized, “I have no intention of withdrawing the complaint, and I intend to hold people accountable until the end.”

When asked by reporters whether he thought SK Chairman Chey Tae-won was responsible for this incident, Attorney Cheon explained, "The CEO that can be confirmed in the (SKT) corporate register is not Chairman Chey Tae-won, so it was difficult to hold him criminally responsible," and explained that no plans have been made to file charges in the future.

Previously, Daeryun submitted a complaint to the Namdaemun Police Station on the 1st, saying, "Although SKT was aware of the need for office work to store and utilize users' SIM-related information, it neglected management."

Regarding the suspicions about SKT's recognition and reporting time of hacking, it was also claimed that it was "a serious violation of the law that hindered the appropriate initial response of government agencies."

On the 23rd, the Namdaemun Police Station will also conduct an investigation into the complaint filed by the Common People's Livelihood Countermeasures Committee (Common People's Committee) against Representative Yoo and Chairman Choi. The Common People's Committee claimed that Chairman Choi and others violated the Personal Information Protection Act and the Information and Communications Network Act by delaying reporting even after knowing about the hacking.

A separate investigation is underway at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit to trace the background to this hacking incident.
