With the enactment of the amendment to the Medical Service Act—which expands the use of healthcare data and makes Ministry of Health and Welfare approval mandatory for large hospitals establishing branch facilities—significant changes are expected in the healthcare sector. We also examine the direction of the government's medical reforms in the aftermath of President Yoon's impeachment.

Changes to the Medical Waste Management System: Key Response Points for Medical Institutions

This past September, under the amendment to the "Enforcement Rules of the Wastes Control Act" pre-announced by the Ministry of Environment, the standards for treating medical waste were eased. The standards for sterilization-and-grinding facilities, which had effectively not been permitted for small and medium-sized hospitals, were relaxed, expanding their options for how to treat medical waste. We examine the response points for medical institutions and the medical industry under the amendment.
