Q
Active-duty service suitability review... it is an unfamiliar term. What is it?

Recently, among the officers, I heard that a certain person was subject to a ‘military active-duty service suitability review’? Or an ‘officer suitability review’? Because it was the first time I had heard the term, I was curious about what it means. When I looked it up, it appears to be an abbreviation for the ‘review of suitability for active-duty service for military officers,’ so which officers become subject to this review? I would also like to know what measures are taken depending on the results of the review.

The terms ‘military active-duty service suitability review’ and ‘officer suitability review’ are abbreviations for the review of suitability for active-duty military service conducted for military officers.
It refers to a review that, if a person is assessed as unable to serve on active duty within the military, results in that person being discharged from service or retired.
If one of the following applies, an officer suitability review is conducted.
① When service is deemed difficult due to a mental or physical disability
② An officer who has twice failed to be promoted at the same rank
③ In the case of a second lieutenant, when the officer has failed to be promoted once
④ When it is deemed necessary to discharge the person in order to adjust troop levels
⑤ In other cases where the person does not meet the requirements for active-duty service for reasons prescribed by Presidential Decree
This is prescribed under Article 37 of the Military Personnel Management Act, and discharge is carried out following deliberation by the discharge review committee.
The officer suitability review is necessary for the efficient operation of the military, and through it the military maintains order and screens out unsuitable personnel.
Because such a review is an important process for determining suitability for military service, it is necessary to accurately understand and prepare for the relevant regulations and procedures.
