Q
Does juvenile school violence necessarily refer to physical violence?
Views62,282
Hello. I have something I am curious about regarding juvenile school violence, so I am asking a question. I am curious whether school violence is recognized only when physical violence is involved. If someone cursed or threatened but did not hit anyone, does that mean it is not school violence? And is cursing and harassing someone through KakaoTalk or Instagram also not recognized as school violence? I am not sure about the standard. I would be grateful if you could let me know!

You have asked about juvenile school violence. The definition of school violence is set out in detail in the Act on the Prevention of and Countermeasures against School Violence.
As you mentioned, not only assault or acts that injure the body but also threats or acts of taking someone's belongings likewise constitute school violence.
In addition, matters such as insult through abusive language, defamation, ostracism, and sexual violence are also included in the category of school violence.
If someone uses the internet or social media to harass a victim student through such conduct, this too can be recognized as school violence.
Even where someone creates deepfake photos or videos, which have recently become a topic of discussion, or shares them, this can be recognized as school violence.
In other words, because school violence is recognized to include physical and mental harm as well as property harm, it is a matter that requires all the more caution.
If someone becomes involved in juvenile school violence, a prompt response is more important than anything else.
This is because one may become involved not only in a disposition by the school violence committee but also in civil and criminal cases.
In particular, in criminal cases one may receive the same level of punishment as an adult, so it is advisable to establish a strategy to defend against punishment before responding.
